Missionary Renewal and Missionary Training
Veteran and New Missionaries Meet for Renewal and Training
Missionary Training was a treat this year as the Asia Pacific
team met with our new missionaries and examined issues specific
to our region. The team also provided helpful tips on adjusting
to a new culture. Everyone felt these meetings were very
beneficial.
Missi onary Renewal’s special times included morning
services that focused on prayer, the Saturday night banquet
where veterans were honored, the Sunday morning Communion
service, Regional Studies, and informal meetings with Asia
Pacific missionaries. The high point occurred on July 1,
when AGWM commissioned another fine group of missionaries.
Our Regional Studies featured a seminar and discussion led
by Nathan Davis (CaringConnection) on how missionaries can
respond effectively during times of crisis. He walked the
group through a process that helped us know how to assist
people who experience tragedy, whether through natural disasters
such as hurricanes, flooding, or earthquakes; or tragedies
that occur on an individual or family scale. He identified
early symptoms of depression that can occur after a traumatic
life event and gave helpful suggestions to help people recover
and be restored. He also discussed how missionaries can maintain
themselves during times of stress. Many commented about the
helpfulness and practicality of his presentation.
